1st THURSDAY QUILTERS
First Thursday Quilt Night - open to all!
A great social time, show and tell, demo, and optional block
exchange - 6:30 to 8:30. The store will remain open past our
usual 5:00, so even if you can't join the group you can still
shop!
Next meeting November 3rd
See what you missed:
October's Optional Block Winner: Tracy
Only a few 'Leaf' blocks this month - They were donated to
Bo for her to work her magic on. Can't wait to see what she
comes up with.
Optional Block for November:
Patriotic Fabric Scrappy Block
9 unfinished (8.5 finished). Using the
scrappy block pattern provided. Create one or more blocks,
using BLUE as the center foundation piece. Click
here for Scrappy Block Pattern.
Over the past couple of months we had several
new members. This month Barb and Wynetta joined us, I thought
I'd take a moment to explain about the optional block.

- Each first Thursday of the month you'll
be given an assignment to make a block (voluntary).
- The blocks theme and/or pattern and/or
colors as well as the size will be provided.
- Complete your block befor the next month's
meeting.
- Everyone who created a block will be eligible
to win the blocks and they are yours to keep! One name per
block, so if you were ambitious and made 2 you get to put
your name in twice .
- One little exception about the drawing,
if you've won in the past you MUST complete a quilt
top (or something) using the blocks you've previously
won before you are eligible to win again. To see examples
of previous completed Optional Block projects click
here.
Recap of September Demo:
Charm Pack Coasters
Well once again, we won't mention
any names (Tracy) didn't bring the flower/brooch supplies
for that demo, but that was okay she was quick on her
feet and found a wonderful substitue that will come
in handy for a quick gift! She managed to wow the group
with a demo of how to create the charm pack coasters!
Very simple just 6, 5" blocks a little folding,
a little sewing and presto! Coasters... She also showed,
using the same instructions but cutting the 6 blocks
into 5" circles you make nice little round coasters
for an elegant look. (Thank you ALTA for the circle
tip!) A set of these instructions can be found in the
Quick Hip Gift List. |

Demo for October: Only
Bo Knows!
|
Bo will come with a suprise demo for
us next month. We've all seen Bo's work so I'm sure
it will be something helpful! She looks at things in
a unique way and finds faster and better ways of doing
things. Can't wait to learn another Bo technique. Here's
a little secret Bo taught us previously to help you
get nice flat seams.

New Members this month - Welcome, Barb and Wynetta! |
Show and Tell
Before
getting started...Sue showed us all pictures of her
new grandbaby!!! So sweet... |

|
Mary Anne was a bit under the weather,
but we grabbed her Halloween quilt to show it off -- of
course with the minkee we all had to touch it too!

| Next on deck was Sandy
T. She's working on a scrappy quilt and got lots of
advice on sashing and borders. She picked out some beautiful
fabrics... (go back for the blue!!!) |

Sandy and Bo |
|
Sandy T was followed by another
Sandy. She showed off this one of a kind Jean Bag that
a friend gave her for her birthday. Thanks to the Jeans
it has all sorts of pocket space! We all gave Sandy
our birthdates so her friend will be ready for our birthdays,
too! |

| Sue
M. dazzled us with this wonderful Hunter's Star Tablerunner
made from Catkin fabrics, and this bright and cheery notebook
made from selvedges. Fun! |

Bo seemed to have a bottomless pit bag
as she pulled out quilt, after quilt -- All
so beautiful and hard to distinguish which is the quilt
top and which is the backing! There was an Irish Chain
quilt top with a Twister back or was it a Twister top
with a Irish Chain back, then the cutest little baby
quilt, love those moneys and the backing was the cats
meow! Bo ended with quilts made out of panels - oh so
lovely. Click each of Bo's quilts for a larger view. |

Jane started off showing us a small block that was made
for her guild, and followed up with a mosaic of patriotic
fabrics using the pineapple ruler. These blocks were arranged
to make a quilt that is filled with loved and hard work!
This quilt will be donated to Quilts of Valor! -- Great
job Jane and a great cause. |

| Wynetta is
new to quilting. She took her first quilting class this
morning with Alta and stayed to join us for 1st Thursday.
She had with her some wonderful antique quilts made by
her grandmother (Alberta Tolbert Page 1900-1974) One machine
pieced all the rest hand pieced and very delicate. She's
taking on one heck of a project finishing these up! We
all just sat and watched each one in awe and admiration
for all the work that went into each item. Truely special
quilts!. |
